What is the purpose of DList?
DList’s purpose is to provide gay men with everything they’d get from an online profile site but with better features and more of them. It has many of the features of manhunt.net, nerve.com, friendster.com and myspace.com but we’re worked to make them so much better than those sites.
As well as being a site where gay men can meet other men from around the world, there are regular parties thrown for DListers in New York (and soon they’ll happen around the country). Dlist.com also features DList Radio, DList's Internet radio program that broadcasts live every Saturday night from New York’s East Village.
What do I need to join?
To be a D Lister you’ll need a valid e-mail address, photos of yourself on your computer or CD and the ability to string together a few sassy sentences about yourself.
What if I do not have an e-mail address?
You’ll need to go get one immediately. Just go to gmail.com, hotmail.com, yahoo.com, aol.com or any of the other e mail providers, sign up and you’ll be on your way.
Will anyone have access to my e-mail address?
Rest assured that DList values your privacy and it’s just our policy to never distribute members' e-mail addresses. We will also never share your e-mail address with other members and it will always be kept private on the site.
Do I need to pay to be a member?
No |

Creating Your Profile
| |
What is a DList ID?
Think of your DList ID as a nick name for yourself while you’re online. It will be what you use to log in to your profile and it will be the name attached to the e mails you send people.
How many letters/numbers can my DList ID be?
Your DList ID should be at least 2, and no more than 12, letters and/or numbers. The underscore and dash symbols are also allowed.
What is a headline?
A profile headline is a sentence that sums you up for your profile. In many ways this is just like a newspaper headline except it’s about you. If you want people to know something specific about you as soon as they see your profile, the headline is the place for you to put that information. It’s one short punchy sentence that says something you want people to know about you. The maximum amount of characters allowed in a headline is 64 which is about 5-9 words.
What is profile description?
Your profile gives other guys on D List details of who you are in more detail. It’s about what you are looking for, what you look like, what you’re into…you know – more detailed information. The maximum amount of characters allowed is 500 which is about 70-100 words.

I'm Into You feature FAQs
| |
How will I ever find out who
clicked on me anonymously?
People who clicked 'I'm Into You (anonymous)' will appear earlier in the results as you click through 'I'm Into You'. Therefore, you will be able to view people who said they were 'into you' anonymously, but their identity will only be revealed if you reciprocate by clicking 'I'm Into You' (either regular or anonymous). They will then show up as matches under the Match tab.
|
| |
Why hasn't anybody clicked 'I'm Into You' for me?
More than likely, you haven't logged into your DList account recently. Members who have logged in more recently will appear higher in the 'I'm Into You' results. If you are logged in now, it shouldn't be long before someone clicks on you!
|
| |
How do I get more matches?
Your number of matches will depend on the number of people that you've clicked 'I'm Into You' for, so the more you use the feature, the more matches you will have! There is also the possibility that people have clicked that they are 'into you' anonymously. We will randomly show you these individuals' profiles high up as you browse. By clicking 'I'm Into You' on them, they will then appear in your 'Matches' section. Beyond this, you should make sure that your DList page is properly filled out. Including more information or photos on your profile should greatly increase the chances of other members being 'into you'.
|
| |
I received an email saying that a DLister is 'into me' but I don't see them under the 'Who's into me' tab.
This person either clicked 'I'm Into You (anonymously)' or has changed their mind by clicking 'switch to pass' under the 'Who i'm into' tab. If someone was 'into you' anonymously, it will be indicated in the e-mail you received. They will show up higher in the the results as you browse 'I'm Into You', and clicking that you are 'into' them will lead to a match.
|
| |
I don't want to show up in the "I'm Into You" search results.
To remove yourself from 'I'm Into You' simply click on the 'My Account' link in the main navigation bar. You can then check the box under Account Preferences that says "Exclude my account from I'm Into You".
|
| |
How will you notify me when somebody clicks 'I'm Into You' for me?
We will send you an email & an alert on your DList homepage when someone is into you. If you have clicked under 'My Account" that you do not wish to 'Receive e-mail notifications when you get a new message', then you will not receive these e-mails.
|
| |
I do not wish to receive e-mails about 'I'm Into You'.
Under account preferences in the My Account tab you can uncheck the "Receive e-mail notifications when you get new messages or alerts". Keep in mind this will stop you from receiving any type of email notification from DList.
|
| |
How do I change the picture that shows up in 'I'm Into You'?
Your picture which appears in 'I'm Into You' is taken from the main picture on your DList profile. To change this picture, click the 'My Pics' link in the main navigation bar. You can then change your current profile picture or upload a new one.
|
| |
What are 'Matches'?
Both you and this DLister clicked 'I'm Into You (either regular or anonymously)' for each other. Browse through 'I'm Into You' to find potential matches. If you change your mind about a match, you can click 'switch to pass'. This member will then be removed from your matches, and you will be removed from theirs.

| |
How do I suspend or delete my account?
If, for some reason, you want to erase your account and leave no trace of yourself on Dlist.com, you’re going to want to suspend your account. Once you’ve logged into your profile, click on “Account” on the bar at the top of the page, scroll to the bottom of your Account page and click the button that says “Suspend my Account”. Posting Your Blog and Customizing Your Profile
| |
Can I Customizing my profile?
You can change the color and background of your profile as often as you want by going into your profile and clicking on the link that says “Edit Your Profile Look and Feel”. This will open up a menu that will allow you to select exactly what colors you want the various parts of your profile to be. To choose what colors you would like for each component click on the link that says “pick color” and a box will appear with a spectrum of colors in it. Move the circle inside the box around to select the exact color you want. To change the background to a picture rather than a color, click on “pick image” and select which pic you want. The pictures available for the background come from your uploaded pics so upload any background photo to your “”public pics folder”.
Can I Embed HTML into my profile?
Yes. If you find a great video clip on Youtube or you have a URL link you’d like to include in your profile, simply select and copy the the URL or “embed file” text from youtube (it’s in a box to the right of the actual screen when you’re on youtube.com). Then, go back to www.dlist.com, sign into your profile, go TO your profile, click on the little “Edit” link above your main photo and paste the embed text where you’d like it to appear. There are instructions within the Edit section that explain how to do it as well. Maybe it sounds complex now but once you do it once you’ll not only be astounded by the potential of this knowledge but you’ll also be really astounded by your own technical ability.
Can I include my blogger.com, blogspot.com or typepad.com blog into my DList profile?
Yes. If you have a blog through a site like blogspot.com you can set it up so that any time you write an entry in your original blog, it will also appear in your DList profile as your DList blog. If you have a look in the Edit section of your profile you’ll see a field within which you can copy your RSS blog field code.

DList Groups
| |
What are groups?
Groups create a space in which DListers with common interests can come together to engage in discussions, share pictures, and express themselves.
How do I join a group?
By clicking through the given categories or using the search box, you can browse for groups that fit your interests. You can simply click "join group" upon finding a group you like. If the group is public, you will immediately become a member, but private groups require approval from the group administrator.
How do I create my own group?
If you can't find a group related to your interest, create your own group by clicking the text to the right of the DListGroups graphic. You will be required to include a group name, a short description of the group, and a picture. The next step is to designate the category of your group and whether it will be public or private.
What is the difference between the "Description of Group" and "Group details"?
The description of the group will show up in searches with the group name and photo. It should be a short blurb which defines the group. The "Group details" allows for an unlimited amount of text, html, or embedded photos or video.
What is the difference between public and private groups?
Any DLister can join a public group, but requests to join private groups must be approved by the group administrator.
How can I contact all the members of my group?
Next to the members section of your group page, you can click to "Email all group members".
As group administrator, can I remove members or give them admin privileges?
Yes. Click the link to view all members of the group, and there will be buttons for these functions under each group member's photo. Designating a group member as an admin will allow said member to e-mail all group members and delete photos, discussions, and other group members.
How do I delete a group I created?
You can only delete a group if you are the only member in it.
How do I report an offensive group?
If a group is targeted towards a specific DList member, contains hate speech, or other inappropriate content, please contact support@dlist.com.

Posting Pictures
| |
Do I have to post a picture of me?
Yes. You do have to post at least one picture of yourself so suck it up and dig out that photo from your birthday where you’re looking super sexy and svelte and put it up.
Think of it this way, when you put up a photo your chances of meeting fascinating and hot new friends or getting a date will more than likely increase by at least 90%. And that’s the point of D List; to connect people.
If you don’t feel like putting up a direct face shot, find a glamorous slick shot that shows you from a difference angle. Be creative with the idea of what a photo of you could be. Don’t flake out and put up some generic, fake shot.
Make sure the photos you put in your public folder don’t contain cock though. By all means, put up cock shots, frankly, we’d LOVE to check out any nude shots you’ve got and won’t censor you like myspace does. You just need to keep them in your private pics folder.
Note: If you put up a Microsoft clip art shot of a landscape or say, a DJing kitten as your primary photo it’s only a matter of time before we ask you to do a better job and get your actual shots up.
What type of photo can I upload?
Photos must have a GIF or JPG extension and should be no larger than 250KB.
What can my profile NOT include?
1) Commercial solicitations or advertisements
2) Abusive language of any kind.
3) Unauthorized use of copyrighted material |

Verification and Verification Pictures
| |
What is Verification and Verification Pictures?
Verification is OPTIONAL, but proves the person in your profile pictures is really you, and helps combat the problem of fake profiles.
READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY TO SET UP A VERIFICATION PICTURE
How to prepare a DList verification picture:
- Find a sheet of paper
- Find a dark marker or pen and write the words "DLIST" ALONG WITH YOUR DLIST ID neatly and legibly on the paper as large as possible.
- Take a picture of yourself holding the sheet of paper. Make sure you are showing the SAME parts of your body you are showing in your other pics, so we can tell it is the same person.
- Upload the picture in the MediaManager
- Find the picture you just uploaded and click the "Set as verification pic" link underneath it. The picture will then say "Verification Pic (pending)." This means the DList admins will now review your pic and determine if it is authentic or not. This should take no longer than a few hours.
- Once verified, your picture will say "Verification Pic (approved)." Congratulations! You are now verified and will appear as a verified member in search, as well as a special link on your profile leading to your verification picture.
Note: Your verification picture will ALWAYS be public. You may change your verification picture by uploading a new one and setting it as the verification pic. Your old picture will continue to be your verification picture until the new one is approved. You can delete your verification picture at any time, however you will then become unverified.

Security Tips
| |
DList makes it easy to express yourself, connect with friends and make new ones, but please remember that what you post publicly could embarrass you or expose you to danger. Here are some common sense guidelines that you should follow when using DList:
- Don't forget that your profile is a public space. Don't post anything you wouldn't want the world to know (e.g., your phone number, address, IM screens name, or specific whereabouts). Avoid posting anything that would make it easy for a stranger to find you, such as where you hang out every day.
- People aren't always who they say they are. Be careful about adding strangers to your friends list. It's fun to connect with new Dlist friends from all over the world, but avoid meeting people in person whom you do not fully know. If you must meet someone, do it in a public place and bring a friend.
- Harassment, hate speech and inappropriate content should be reported. If you feel someone's behavior is inappropriate, react. Report it to Dlist right away.
- Don't post anything that would embarrass you later.
- Don't mislead people into thinking that you're older or younger. If you are under 18 and pretend to be older, Dlist will delete your profile. If you are over 18 and pretend to be a teenager we will delete your profile as no one under the age of 18 can be on Dlist.com.

What does "Remember Me" do?
You can choose to have D List remember your user name and password so you don’t have to type it in each time you come back to DList.com. If you choose this it means that the computer you’re at will keep you logged on. If you log onto DList.com from a public or shared computer, you might not want to tick the “Remember Me” box because it means anyone who goes to DList.com on that computer will automatically be logged in as you. If you have your own computer that only you use, it can be easier to click “Remember Me”. |

Viewing Pictures in a Profile
| |
How do I post pictures as private?
Your primary picture is always public which means that everyone will be able to see it, but you can upload the others as private so you can choose who sees them. To upload a picture, log in to your profile and click on "Upload/Manage your pics." You will see four tabs to choose from; “Your public pictures”, “Your private pictures”, “Your public videos”, “Your private videos”. Choose which category you want to upload to and click on it. (Portrait and G rated shots go in the public folders while anything x rated or nude has to go in the private ones.) Then, browse to the location of the picture on your computer. Once you have found the picture you want to upload, select that file and click Open. Then click the "Upload it" button. Make sure you check to see how large your photo file is. There’s a 250KB limit on each image.
Once you’ve uploaded your private pics, you can decide what level of access the rest of the people on DList.com can have to them. The box entitled “Privacy Preference” allows you to select whether you want everyone to be able to see your private pics or whether you want to be able to choose who gets access to them.
How do I unlock my private pictures for another member?
If you want to unlock your private pictures for someone, log into your own profile then go to their profile page and click on the link that says, "My private pics are locked for this user." You’ll see a notice that says your pictures are now unlocked for that person. The person you unlocked for will receive an e-mail saying your pictures are now unlocked and he will be able to access them.
How do I relock my private pictures?
You can relock your pictures by clicking the "My private pics are unlocked for this user" link on that particular member's profile page. When you do that, it will relock your private pics so they won’t be able to see them any more. It’s the same process as when you unlock them for someone except this time you’re stopping them from seeing your private pics rather than letting them. |

You can see a list of all your friends on your profile page and the box at the top right hand corner tells you how many of your friends are online at one time.
