We’re starting to put up Christmas lights and decorate the house with Thanksgiving and holiday decor. I love how warm and cozy all these things make my house feel, especially since it’s getting so cold. I’m really looking forward to winter break and the holidays, but I’m not looking forward to Thanksgiving at all.
Thanksgiving with my family consists of:
- Awkward small talk.
- My aunt telling me how handsome and skinny I look (seriously happens every damn year).
- My whole extended family being confused as to why I don’t eat what my mom cooks (I don’t eat turkey, pork, beef, and I occasionally eat chicken. I usually eat stuffing and salad and just sit there while the rest of my family stuff their faces with turkey). “What do you eat these days, John? You’re such a picky eater.”
- I’m positive that my beard will be the main topic of conversation at the table. I can’t wait… “You need to shave! Wow, when did this happen? Why aren’t you shaving? You know you have a beard, right?”
- Me giving my mom dirty looks and her laughing at me because she knows how much I hate Thanksgiving.
- My sister isn’t visiting this year, which sucks because whenever she comes, she is the center of attention. I love that. I can just sit there and listen to my extended family members badger her with questions.
WOW! Sounds like we have the same exact life! That’s why I will be opting out of Thanksgiving & Christmas this year!
