East Village Indie
hey -
SEND ME A MESSAGE BEFORE YOU CLICK ON THAT "FRIEND" BUTTON. IT'S F**ING AMAZING... EVEN WITH THIS IN CAPS AT THE TOP OF MY PROFILE, I STILL GET FRIEND REQUESTS WITHOUT MESSAGES.

October 2009
I don't really take DList that seriously (I don't use the chat & the groups are pretty pointless), but I see a lot of people lately railing at DList, or deleting their profiles, and so on. IDK - I have actually met a couple of nice guys on here that have slowly become friends. And that despite the fact that it's sometimes a bit hard to win me over against my normal reticence. Does DList do something different than Gay.com, Manhunt, Adam4Adam...? I think so (for one, it doesn't seem as hook-up centered, but maybe I'm mistaken?), but whatever...
ALSO: I've been weeding my friend list. If I removed you, it's no offense. I'm sure you're a great guy. I'm sure I'd love to hang out with you, get a beer, climb a tree.... It's just that we've never really chatted.

east village diy indie anarch academic (yeah.. a college teach). a compulsive wanderer in New York (long four hour walks in summer), from the East Village to Hell's Kitchen, the Strand, the Union Square green market, the galleries out past 10th avenue, the Red Hook waterfront... definitely not a morning person: I need my coffee. I'm NPR, but can curl up watching the Simpsons or Buffy, and Sundays Times is a lazy ritual. Originally from Los Angeles, I've spent years in France (a former 8yr ltr), but have been in NY since '91. Unfortunately shy, sometimes quiet, other times quirky. I write. I've taken up the guitar and play in a band with some friends, occasionally writing songs (about Ho Chi Minh, the Dardanelles). I sometimes create participatory art events, somewhere between performance and chaos. Words are important (Gaddis, Beckett, Marquez...), but also unsaid; arts are essential (Cage, Rothko, Goldsworthy...), films (Wong Kar-Wai, Kubrick, Greenaway...), cooking, writing... nerdy at times (Marvel comics, H.P.Lovecraft horror, zombies!), but got my PhD in late 16th century French lit (hesitate over academic career). more cat than dog. and love dark beer. huge wall of sound bone-rattling sounds in large enclosed spaces make me blissfully happy, and damn but I miss the days of moshing to X-Ray Spex and Iggy at the rock-n-roll fag-sk8tr-punk club Squeezebox!
in terms of friends: open to meeting some cool diy non-scene buds and partners in crime for hanging out, catching/renting a movie, wandering around, hitting the galleries, having a drink, doing stuff from the nonsense list (http://www.nonsensenyc.com/)... people that can turn me on to music I wouldn't have caught, crack me up, inspire me, help me with my barre chord fingering, and enjoy a good snowball fight...
if you want to add me as a friend, message/email me FIRST with a hi. why not? however, IF YOU HAVE MORE THAN 1000 "FRIENDS", WHAT'S THE F*ING POINT?
the coolest guys are the ones that put you completely at ease even when they jump into the fountain and ask you to join them.
my bf outlook: "Live Close, Visit Often." (and yes, I did steal this from Katherine Hepburn, but the lady knew a thing or two about relationships and desire and space... ) - what I mean is: I'm just not good with living with someone 24/7. Only child syndrome? Maybe. All's I know is that I find it very unsettling to have a lover's vision of who I am/should be projected at me all the time - I like to have my moments alone, space to write, time to mumble to myself, to be lazy, to have my moods, etc.
my poorly maintained blog on arts and stuff: http://soonafternow.blogspot.com
you can find me on last.fm: http://www.last.fm/user/EastVillKit/
not everything gets scrobbled though, because I have vinyl and cds. if we're pretty compatible in music, add me as a friend there.
some random things I hate:
* when guys call guys bitches.
* meth/coke heads - they get into your head and mind-fuck with you.
* dogs that bark for hours and hours - get a cat!
* plumbers who do a half-assed job and put faucets in backwards - read
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance.
* grading student papers/exams.
some random things I love:
* drinking beers in bed with a hot guy
* smoked salmon
* hand-cranked air-raid sirens
* random kindness
* "try to be someone substantial" (Almost Famous)
* "now that I'm enlightened, I'm just as miserable as ever" (John Cage)
* Brian the dog from Family guy

I actually have this neat little instrument called a concertina I play around with. Awesome sounds. Other than that your basic ones. Guitar, Piano. Fun fun. How about yourself?
