myInterests
Interests/Hobbies
Talking with everyone, I miss riding horses, I work out, I love double takes with cute guys, and then triple takes with big smiles on their faces, independant cinema, reading, food and wine orgasms, food and wine during orgasm (just kidding, I think), travel, precolombian art (in the mood for it lately), really, really old churches, castles...the usual stuff, don't you think?
Music I Like:
Sacha Sacket, Christopher Dallman, Ori Kam, Veer, Tori Amos (some), Maria Taylor, The Avett Brothers, Rufus Wainright, Hem, Cocteau Twins, Ben Taylor, David Saw, Imogen Heap, 13 and God, Joanna Newsom, Nickel Creek, I'm from Barcelona, Julian Velard, Regina Spektor, De/Vision, His Name is Alive, Leona Lewis and of course Dolly P....just started listening to Mac Wiseman...ok, so it's not for everyone.
Films I Like:
Most recent favorites: Waltz with Bashir, Little Miss Sunshine, Babel, Stranger than Fiction, Little Children, Das Leben der Anderen, The Boss of it all, El Cielo Dividido, LES CHANSONS D'AMOUR, Valley of Ellah, Redacted.
Literature I Like:
Didascalicon by Hugues de Saint-Victor, Markings by Dag Hammarskjold, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek by Annie Dillard, Belle du Seigneur, Ressuciter...almost anything by Christian Bobin, Harry Potter series, Tolkien (not the movies), Alistair MacLean, G.K. Chesterton, a few Paolo Coelho books...Albert Cohen, Conn Iggulden (those last two have absolutely nothing in common, lol).
TV Shows I Like:
Allo Allo, Black Adder, Ab Fab. I don't watch a lot actually. Lately I've been watching really old I Love Lucy and new Battlestar Galactica on the internet. I also love watching clips of Smack the Pony. That is hilarious.

Just a Missouri boy in Paris who came over to learn the language and stayed. I've done a lot of odd jobs in order to make it last. From renting apartments to tourists to spending five years renovating apartments (still do that once in a while), to finally teaching my first university level classes for both French and American Universities...otherwise I am writing my doctoral thesis on Romanesque art in the Champagne region. Someday I'll get done with that (heh) and I'm going to find a job teaching.
My favorite places to be are Burgundy in the Spring, the Bordeaux, Biarritz and Normandy beaches in the Summer, the Pyrenees Mountains when ever, Champagne in the Fall and Paris all the time.

favorite recent quotes:
I got this one in my dlist inbox today:
"dude you think your very important you look like a fool"
To start off with, here is a great quote from a good author. I loved her books when I was a gangly and awkward teenager. I would retreat into my room and read for hours and hours.
This quote seems timely to me. It speaks of the christian example, but non-christians, secularists, leaders of all varieties, INCLUDING OUR POLITICIANS, should remember this goal. Let us be lights in the cosmic darkness. Let us draw the others to us, to our understanding by the example we give in our own lives and in our own behavior.
"If my stories are incomprehensible to Jews or Muslims or Taoists, then I have failed as a Christian writer. We do not draw people to Christ by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it."
Madeleine L'Engle
How beautiful the world would be if you loved me the way I love you.
-from a bottle of sparkling California wine circa 1990...
SOMETIMES TWO HEARTS ENTER INTO A COMPLICITY, A PROFOUND UNDERSTANDING, AND THE GREAT PHYSICAL DISTANCE THAT CAN SEPARATE THEM IS NEITHER A BARRIER TO THEIR FORCE NOR TO WHAT THEY CAN CREATE
-ME to dlister MTNGUY1976 (07-III-2007)
I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be.
-Joseph Campbell
Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway.
-John Wayne
The sages do not consider that making no mistakes is a blessing. They believe, rather, that the great virtue of persons lies in the ability to correct ones mistakes and continually to make a new person of oneself.
-Yang Ming
"I solemnly swear that I am up to NO GOOD"
-Harry Potter
And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't get discouraged and give up. Galatians 6:9

October Morning
Today -
The first cold day;
In the pale light,
The mixed sensation:
Gray sky, cold air,
And resignation.
Yet the leaves cling
Still to the trees;
Just a few turned brown,
Blown down.
Outside -
Breezes sting;
Newspaper kiosks
Through headlines
Speak to the sunrise
While a bird sings:
This week the President,
While waging war,
Won the Peace Prize.
The time is out of joint.
O cursed spite
That ever I was born
To set it right!
